Our Services
Positive Behaviour Support that focuses on people, not just behaviour
We provide evidence-informed Positive Behaviour Support designed to help people better understand behaviour, reduce distress and build the skills, supports and environments needed for a better quality of life.
Our approach looks beyond behaviours themselves to understand the unmet needs, communication style, and the individual experiences and circumstances that may be contributing to them. We work collaboratively with the person and the people around them to develop practical, meaningful strategies that can be implemented in everyday life.
Rather than focusing on control or compliance, we focus on building understanding, increasing participation, strengthening relationships and creating safer, more sustainable outcomes across home, school and community environments.
All behaviour is communication. If we get caught up in how the communication is delivered, instead of the need behind it, a person may turn up the volume to be heard or shut down the need completely.

OUR APPROACH TO PBS
We believe effective PBS goes beyond behaviour management alone. Our approach focuses on understanding the person, reducing stressors, building practical skills and creating strategies that work in everyday life.
In practice, this means:
Looking beyond behaviour to understand the “why” behind it
Creating tailored strategies … not copy-paste plans
Providing practical support that works in real life, not just on paper
Collaborating with families, schools, support workers and care teams
Building skills, confidence, communication and independence over time
Reducing stressors, barriers and unmet needs that may contribute to distress
Supporting dignity, choice, inclusion and meaningful relationships
Reviewing and adapting strategies as life changes and people grow

Frequently Asked Questions
01
What is PBS
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach that focuses on understanding the reasons behind behaviours rather than simply trying to stop them. PBS aims to improve quality of life by building skills, reducing barriers and creating supportive environments.
02
Is PBS only for aggressive or high-risk behaviours?
No. While PBS can support people who display aggressive or high-risk behaviours, it can also help with emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, distress, communication challenges, school refusal, relationship strain and other behaviours that impact a person's quality of life, participation or wellbeing.
03
How is PBS different from other capacity building supports?
PBS looks beyond skill development alone. It focuses on understanding behaviour, emotional wellbeing, communication, environmental factors and unmet needs to develop practical, sustainable strategies for both the individual and those who support them.
04
What if we've tried PBS before and it didn't help?
Not all PBS approaches are the same. At Dynamic Ability, we believe that meaningful PBS is built on strong relationships, trust and a genuine understanding of the individual. We work collaboratively to develop personalised strategies that fit the person's unique needs, goals and everyday life.
05
What if the person masks in appointments but struggles at home?
This is more common than many people realise. That's why we work collaboratively with families, carers, schools and support teams to build a broader understanding of the person's experiences across different environments.
06
Do I need specific NDIS funding to access PBS?
PBS is typically funded through Improved Relationships funding within an NDIS plan. If you're unsure what funding you have available, we're happy to discuss your circumstances and help you explore your options.
